What Is Disability Personal Training

Disability personal training is not about pushing limits or “no pain, no gain”.

It’s about building strength, confidence, and function in a way that respects your health, energy levels, and lived experience.

Sessions are:
– Individually adapted
– Symptom-led, not ego-led
– Focused on long-term progress, not quick fixes

Every program is built around what you can do today, while gently supporting what you want to achieve over time.

How In-Person Training Works

1. Free Consultation

We start with a relaxed, no-pressure conversation to understand:
– Your condition and symptoms
– Your past experiences with exercise
– What you’d like help with (and what you’d like to avoid)

2. Individual Assessment

This may include:
– Movement confidence
– Fatigue patterns
– Balance, coordination, or strength (where appropriate)
– Day-to-day function and goals
No tests for the sake of it — only what’s useful.

3. Personalised Training Sessions

Sessions are adapted to your needs and may include:
– Strength and functional movement
– Balance and coordination work
– Low-impact cardiovascular exercise
– Confidence-building and movement education
Everything is adjusted in real time based on how you’re feeling that day.

4. Ongoing Review & Support

Your program evolves as:
– Symptoms fluctuate
– Confidence improves
– Goals change
Progress is reviewed regularly and never rushed.

PT Trainer who really understands me

March 19, 2026

Tom has been my PT instructor for 10 years now. Over those years he has really turned my physical and mental health around. I have a complex health condition but with Tom’s support and motivation, not only have I lost 4 stone, enjoy exercising and now fully understand his coaching and how it can change your life. He really gets to know you and creates a program specifically for your needs. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Tom has been working with my brother, who has learning disabilities, for over a year. He has motivated D to eat more healthily and to move more. As a result of Tom’s encouragement and perseverance D has lost 20% of his body weight! A fantastic achievement! Thank you Tom!

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be “fit enough” to start personal training?

No. You don’t need any baseline level of fitness. Training starts from your current ability, even if that means very small movements or short sessions. Progress is gradual and always guided by how your body responds.

Fluctuating symptoms are expected and planned for. Sessions are adapted on the day, and rest, pacing, or lighter movement is always prioritised when needed. Progress is measured over time, not session by session.

In-person sessions take place in Surrey and can be delivered:

  • In your home
  • Outdoors (where appropriate)
  • In private facilities

The setting is chosen based on comfort, accessibility, and safety.

It often sits somewhere in between. While I am not a physiotherapist, training is rehabilitation-informed and focuses on function, confidence, and long-term health rather than aesthetics or performance goals.
